Hotel Alternative in New York City

This summer most of us found out that hotels in New York are freakin' expensive. The 9/11 hospitality hangover is officially over. Room rates in Manhattan are regularly topping $300 at many swank downtown hotels. So what is a prospective NYC visitor to do? Check Craigslist.

Yup, Craigslist is regularly offering hotel alternatives in the form of "short term lodging facilities."

Anco Studios is one such place offering sub $150 studios on the Upper East side complete with private bath and kitchen.  You will find studios, town houses, and even New Yorker's renting out their over priced apartments if you scour Craigslist often enough.

Not for everyone, but an alternative nonetheless.
