Despite the small beds and remote neighborhood location, NY Times scribe Andrew Ferren finds Madrid's newest design hotel, Hotel Puerta América, a "surprisingly appealing place."

Andrew didn't mention the status of service at this property, but we will take his dismissal of service as a hopeful sign.  Kinda like how the best referees are the ones you don't even notice--ya know?

Puerta América was built by a virtual design dream team, including Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid.  Each of the properties twelve floors was whipped together by one of these dozen legendary designers.

With 308 standard rooms, 22 junior suites and 12 suites, WiFi, a rooftop pool and a €240 a night price tag, this hotel is hoping to attract business men and lovers of design hotels.

If Puerta América can deliver high grade service as well as high grade design, the property will deliver the elusive double double.
