No, we weren't there at the same time, and our takes on this place were slightly different.
Our take:
After over a year of writing about the Dennis Rodman of hotels we were ready to hate this place. We were bitter about paying $325, but ya know what? Hotel prices in NYC are out of control. $325 is by no means a deal, however, just try to find a decent Manhattan hotel in a decent location. Do we have to remind you that even the Hampton Inn Chelsea was charging $300+ a night? The Hampton Freakin' Inn!
Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly employee who quickly accommodated our early check-in request. Once in our room, everything was unspectacular, the décor, the LCD TV (very small), the view (backside of the building), however, the service for our brief stay was top notch. Maid service was quick and efficient--the room was made up in as much time as it took us to do a quick Starbucks run, the bed was comfortable, the towels brand new each morning, and the in-room WiFi worked like a charm.
The highly touted rooftop bar/pool was gorgeous, but did have its detractors. It was a great place to relax during a hot NYC afternoon, and the water views allowed us to see all the way to Hoboken, but alas, once the sun goes down the bridge and tunnel crowd invades. Real estate flipping and divorce settlement chatter seemed to be the convos du jour, at least the night we were there, however, watching these folks can be even more enjoyable than being one of 'em. As far as we were concerned the rooftop beauty turned into a Monet as soon as the bartender asked for $14.00 for a Jack and Ginger.
All in all we were really happy with our Gansevoort stay, proving a satisfactory hotel stay still teeters on service and location, and Gansevoort provided both of those in spades. Our favorite thing about the location? With a good pair of binoculars, or a zoom lens, you can peer in on the rooftop activities over at the SoHo House.

JetSetLara's Take
Lara's full take on Gansevoort is here, below are some excerpts:
I left disappointed and I'll admit my expectations were not that high to begin with. Sure, there is a small pool on the rooftop with a nice view from certain angles, but it's badly designed and quite noisy. The noise originates from the AC exhaust that's configured to face the pool and is located several feet above the pool level (you got to love those engineers!)
The bathroom was nothing special either, although the sink had a somewhat interesting cylindrical design (someone needs to ban the use of fluorescent lights in bathrooms btw) There were three different types of $8 bottles of water by the bed. At $500+ per night, I found placing non-complimentary bottles of water by the bed somewhat irritating.
I was planning to go back and stay at one of their larger suites but I am not sure I want to! On the positive side, I experienced a certain kind of guilty pleasure lounging by the pool in a boiling hot NY
C'mon Lara, give it one more try. We didn't run into any screaming kids or AC exhaust, so that could be why we enjoyed our stay, but we still say you give Hotel Gansevoort one more try, if they fail again--write 'em off.
Like Dennis Rodman, Hotel Gansevoort plays when it wants to play.
