If you live in the LA area and have your own pool, well, forget you.

But if you aren't that lucky, you do have options other than sweltering in the late August heat. A number of local hotels allow non guests to use their pools, some for as little as the price of a cocktail at their poolside bar. Getting rewarded for boozing before 5PM? Now that is my kind of refreshment. LA.com has compiled a list:

1.The Standard Downtown

The roof, the roof, the roof isn't on fire, it's covered in water. Grab a drink from the bar and use of the pool is yours.

W Hotel Westwood

On weekdays, non-guests are allowed to use the pool freely- unless things get too crowded, in which case they are the first to go. Weekends require a room key for admission, so don't even try.
