- Shutters On The Beach
July 8, 2005 at 4:34 PM | 0 Comments
Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, California sits on the beach next to the famous Pier, which is rare for a hotel in Los Angeles since there's usually a congested highway blocking the ocean access.
Built in 1993 using traditional architecture inspired by the California beach scene of the 1920s and 30s, the hotel rooms and other areas were redone this past year to be updated to 2005 standards (finally!) but still maintains a very chill seaside atmosphere.
At the ONE Spa the interior keeps up with the beach theme by covering the small lounge with seashells on the wall and using nautical-esque treatment rooms of dark wood.
It sort of feels like you are on a ship from the 1920s or 30s but not scary Titanic or anything, very soothing.
The spa uses all Ole Hendrickson products and you can choose from body treatment options that are somewhat cutely named, like Beach Buff scrub and massage, the Get Stoned hot stone massage or the Tidal Wave Facial.
When you finish with those treatments get the "Body Art by the Sea" which is temporary tatto. Then head to nearby Venice and you'll fit in with the locals.
