[Editor's Note: Hotel Maven JulieW just returned from London with a story about what happens when you lose your reserved hotel room to Sheryl Crow. Enjoy. Thake is away JulieW:]

Just got back from my vacation in London (pre-bombing) and was really disappointed by my experience at the Covent Garden Hotel. I've stayed there in the past and have always loved the boutiques atmosphere and lively restaurant/bar..but the trouble started even before we left.

First, the room my husband and I reserved months ago, with connecting room for our daughter, was pulled from us with only a couple of days notice.

We were told it was 'accidently' given to another guest, who I later learned was Sheryl Crow.

After the trans-atlantic flight and taxi ride into London, our driver had to stop short of the hotel a couple of blocks and told us we would have to walk the rest of the way with our luggage because the entire street (Monmouth) was closed for construction.

The front desk of the hotel informed us that the work had been going on for a month and would continue through Christmas. We were told it was only for 'road work' but by the strong sewage smell in our room, they were obviously working on some sort of pipe/plumbing problem. The hotel was filled to capacity and couldn't move us...they also placed our daughter down the hall in a separate room. We really wish they'd informed us of the road work, because with all of the problems pre-arrival with our rooms, we would have just booked at their sister hotel, Charlotte Street.

Also...wifi offered was 20 pounds a day ($40) Besides room stealer Sheryl Crow, celebs in residence included Scarlett Johannson, David Schwimmer, Josh Hartnett and Gavin Rossdale.
