Ambassador Hotel to be Razed for a School
The infamous Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, where Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968 was ruled to be demolished to make way for another Los Angeles city school.
The Los Angeles Conservancy had been fighting demolition of the hotel, located on Wilshire Boulevard near downtown, arguing that the assassination site and the swinging history of the hotel (it was home to the Coconut Grove of Howard Hughes' day) should be preserved.
But the Los Angeles County Superior court ruled that the abandoned lot should be replaced with a build a facility for 4,200 kindergarten through high school students on the 24-acre property.
Members of Robert Kennedy's family have whole-heartedly supported the demolition of the school and their is a possibility the school will be named in his honor.
Naturally, the conservancy will attempt to appeal the decision.
