So forget the World Series of Poker, what we want to know is what is the Rio Las Vegas really like?

Luckily for us, an Orange County couple recently stayed at the Rio and recounted a stay full of vicissitudes.

The Orange County Couples Rio Highs And Lows Post Break

I went to Vegas Spring Break 2005 with my boyfriend and decided to stay at the Rio because it was cheaper and we heard the pool was really nice. I booked the room online from the rio hotel site and there were no problems there. Upon check in we were told we had to wait for them to clean a room which was fine with us because that usually is the case but after about a half an hour of waiting, they sent us up to a DIRTY room - the bed was not made and there were alcohol bottles everywhere. Clearly, housekeeping had not been there yet. When I called the front desk to tell them that, they informed me that it would be at least another hour to clean a room so instead they sent someone up right away. They also offered us a dining credit.

Well, hey, at least they offered an olive branch right? So, do the rooms clean up nice at least?

The room - the rooms are excellent! It is very large with a large couch as well. The hotel is an all suite hotel so I think all the rooms are bigger than what you would usually get from a standard vegas room. The windows are floor to ceiling so ask for a room that faces the strip - the hotel is off the strip but there is an awesome view at night! Bathroom is nice and our room also had a vanity area, closet, and mini fridge (loved it!) The decor is not modern or luxurious but again, the room is huge!

And what about the pool?

The pool is really nice. It has a sand beach with waterfalls and plenty of pool benches. There are cocktail waitresses going around in bikinis and a pool bar. I ordered a pina colada from the bar and when I got it, it tasted really fowl. So i went back up and told the bartender and he said "ya I think the milk is bad, people keep telling me that" He did replace my drink with something else, but it worries me that a bartender would keep serving a drink if he thought the milk in it had gone bad. Anyways, you will love the pool.. Its great for families with children too because there are lots of shallow areas.

Hmm. The couple goes on to talk about a bloody pillow incident (allegedly the blood was not theirs), and the non-existent management response that followed this alleged incident.  But hey, they do report that the buffet was top notch.

The Rio World Carnival buffet is hands down the best buffet in Vegas!

So what can we learn from this Orange County duo? Like, stay elsewhere, but crash the Rio pool and buffet? Well, let's remember this stay did happen during spring break, when hotel service demands from guests are highest.

These two don't seem to be hard to please guests--and if the Rio improved on a couple of simple service areas, our guess is these two would have left happy.
