The Tribeca Grand Hotel has just announced their new iStudio - a premium room outfitted with the digital pioneer Apple's latest multimedia technology. To us this is bigger than yesterdays Apple/Intel announcement, of course.

The "studio" is geared to weekend Spielbergs. Here are the specs:

* a fully-loaded G5 computer outfitted with film, photo and sound editing software.

*iSight cameras

*a user-friendly video conferencing camera with integrated microphone that will allow guests to have face-to-face chats with friends, families, co-workers and even Tribeca Grand's staff.

(We won't even imagine what that would have allowed Russell Crowe to have done!)

*Apple wireless keyboards, Apple wireless mouses and a built-in Bluetooth module.

* iPod and BOSE Sound Dock

Ah, but there is more...for the Film types (this IS Tribeca afterall) the Tribeca Grand is offering a whole new kind of deal.

More iStudio info post break

For aspiring auteurs and amateur film buffs, Tribeca Grand is also featuring a 3Director1s Cut2 package that includes accommodation in an iStudio room outfitted with a top-of-the line G5 computer, Camcorder iSight video conferencing camera, iPod and Bose Sound Dock. The package also includes a Sony HandyCam Digitial Video so guests can record their personal in-room experiences as well as those in the surrounding neighborhood and city.

Once shooting is completed, this slice of New York life can be edited using pre-installed iLife software (iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, iTunes and GarageBand) to add special effects, cut unwanted scenes, and lay a soundtrack to create an instant classic.

Here's the price breakdown:
Directors Cut - (or as we call it, the Spielberg Special)
May- June Starting at $449
July August and holiday periods Starting at $369
Sept-Dec Starting at $499

Now, to ensure all of this technology gets used correctly, the staff at Tribeca Grand is receiving special training and there will be a help line that feeds right into the kind folks over at New York's Apple Store in Soho. Let's hope the direct phone line gets more attention than the people standing in line at that store!

Tribeca Grand will also offer guests portable Apple technology with the Powerbook, iPod, iPod mini and iPod Shuffle loaner program. The music options will also be available for use in the hotel's gym.

We are betting that next years Sundance has an entry from an iStudio Weekend filmmaker...any takers?
