Don't Feed The 'Vagrants' On The Edge Of The Tenderloin

Code Ronin blogs about his budget hotel in San Francisco, which is serving as his home base during this weeks Java One:
Got to the Metropolos Hotel, and after resting up, I headed down to the adjoining restaurant for some "Asian Fusion". Which means "Indian". It was satisfactory, a bit expensive, don't know if I will go there again. I'll post the name tomorrow.
Linked reviews to Google Maps listing of the Metropolis Hotel all said it was in a rough neighborhood. What I think people really mean to say is "poor". Vagrants stumble about day and night, and if you have problems dealing with the darker side of urban living, yeah, I can see where you might be disturbed. But right around the corner though, it all brightens up.
The secret seems to be to swagger around like you belong, not to gawk like a tourist.
Don' worry Code, you'll be fine, as long as you don't feed the "vagrants" after midnight, and whatever you do, don't pour water on 'em, or they will multiply right before your eyes.
Oh yeah, and the Met comes equipped with free WiFi.
