Tower23 in San D
The LA Times calls the soon-to-be-opened Tower23 Hotel in San Diego an aspiring "uber-hip habitat."
The 44-room hotel is set to open near the Crystal Pier at Pacific Beach on July 15.
"With room categories such as Sweet Suite and Surf Pad and a restaurant menu with headings such as 'way cool' and 'getting warm,' Tower23 Hotel sounds a bit like '50s beatnik meets the beach.
On the web site the hotel says its a mixture of plenty things from "london chic" to "sydney vibe" to "south beach sizzle."
Staying true to its location, the hotel was named after a nearby lifeguard tower and uses lots of glass windows so that the beach and ocean are always in view.
Instead of a nightclub or regular swimming pool, the hotel will have " a wading pool with a waterfall and fiber-optic illumination at night, teak tables and chairs, and food and bar service."
Another thing the hotel will have is exclusivity. The pool/bar areas is only open to hotel guests and their friends.
Is the velvet rope coming to San Diego?
The Jordan restaurant can seat 400 people, with a lounge, sushi bar and outdoor patio.
As for the rooms themselves, guests can check into them by radio once inside. Not really sure what this means but it sounds efficient.
"Most rooms will have ocean views, and all will have balconies or terraces, high-definition TV, video on demand and mini-bars whose contents can be personalized."
Rates start at $199 a night and Sweet Suites can go for $700 a night.
