Maine's Spruce Point Inn Rocks

If you are going to stay at a Maine Inn, you want it to be authentic. Thus, you are gonna have to leave the comfy confines of Portland to find a "true" Maine Inn. Fear not there are many Inns up the coast that will do the job. Our favorite is the Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor.
Why? The Spruce Point in is set on a sprawling oceanfront hillside and comes equipped with everything Maine. The ocean, wooden piers, bouldering, giant pine trees, blueberry patches, knotty pine cottages, luxury condos, shuffleboard, clay tennis courts--take your pick.
A free shuttle will take you into Boothbay Harbor from the Inn, where you can gawk at the tourists while eating saltwater taffy all summer long. Then retreat back to the Spruce and take a dip in the saltwater pool, the freshwater pool, or just chill out in your room.
One warning--the onsite restaurants are a tad expensive, so if you want a true Maine dining experience (ie Lobster Roll) head up to Wiscasset and hit Red's Eats. Locals say they have the best lobster roll in the state.
Seriously, you know it is not like us to fawn all over a hotel without good reason--take a trip to the Spruce Point in August and then come back and tell us we shouldn't be excited about this place--we dare you.
