LA Hotels to Stay Staffed
A new labor contract was struck on Saturday between seven major Los Angeles hotels and its employees, represented by the Unite Here labor union, avoiding a possible strike.
On Thursday, workers at the Riot Hyatt in West Hollywood walked out because of the contract disputes, which had lasted for nearly 14 months.
Employees from six other hotels including the Regent Beverly Wilshire, Westin Bonaventure, and the Millennium Biltmore were expected to strike as well.
However, Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa intervened for a settlement which extends the contract through November 2006 and includes a 5.8 % wage increase and the continuation of full health benefits and other provisions.
Yawn. Ok, we admit this labor strife bores us to tears. Call us insensitive, but we are putting a two month embargo on covering hotel labor disputes.
