Vanity Fair didn't just publish photos of Wynn Las Vegas (WLV), there was an accompanying story, of course.

The story is a hilarious romp tracking Steve Wynn's activities just weeks before the April 28, 2005 WLV opening.

After reading the story we still aren't sure whether Steve Wynn is the spiting image of Charles Foster Kane, or Goldmember.

Based on the following quote, we are going to go with Goldmember:

The pine trees on the mountain turn gold. Wynn is pleased. "I like gold," he says.

"Steve likes the color gold in the mountains!" yells the director. "He likes the gold!"

The article goes on to quote a bunch of Wall Street gurus who fawn all over Steve Wynn. Milken, Baron, and others all take turns giving Wynn high praise and comparing Emperor Goldmember to everyone from Isaac Stern to Renoir.

Jeez, high praise indeed, you would think that Wynn Las Vegas discovered the cure for AIDS. Just to be clear: We have stayed at the Wynn, and while it is a extremely nice Las Vegas hotel, as far as we know, the cure for AIDS is not inside one of the 2700 rooms. However, according to Vanity Fair, Wynn spent roughly nine times the amount of money the U.S. government spent on the worldwide AIDS crisis to create Wynn Las Vegas.
