Hotel To Partially Block View From Safeco Field

The new flagship Silver Cloud Hotel, nine stories tall in some places and eight in others, is going up directly across the street from the statue of the glove in front of Safeco Field, and will partially block some of the sweetest stadium vistas.
The hotel will have a bricklike exterior designed to match the stadium, and won't completely block the panoramic views across Elliott Bay to Queen Anne and the Space Needle. Furthermore, when the Public Facilities District, which runs Safeco Field, and the Seattle Mariners opposed the plans for the hotel, Silver Cloud Inns & Hotels agreed to replace 18 rooms in the hotel's southwest corner with a pool -- dropping that section of the hotel to eight stories, even though the rest will be nine stories tall. The adjustment will be just enough to preserve partial view Olympic Mountains from inside the stadium.
Insert your own "every cloud has a silver lining" joke here.
The hotel is scheduled to open its doors by MLB Opening Day 2006.
