John Holusha, NY Times scribe, poses the following theory:

If most people are willing to drive for hours and wind up sitting by a swimming pool, why wouldn't they just take the train to the Meatpacking District and hang out at an "urban resort hotel.

Good theory. However, the first example he uses is Hotel Gansevoort, and well, there is at least one reason folks might consider putting up with a couple drive to hang out at a different pool. That reason can be summed up by this photo.

"There is a lot happening on the Gansevoort's roof," said Holusha, we agree, we just think this might be one of those situations where less is more.
