SoCal Beach Hotels Making a Comeback
The New York Post reports that Southern California beach hotels are making a comeback, positioning themselves as small, luxurious and of course, where the stars stay.
Old and decrepit Barnabey's Hotel in Manhattan Beach has now been renovated into The Belamar with 127 hotel rooms. Only problem is that it's still about a mile from the actual beach.
Still this is there tag line: A Very Hip Haven in a Very Square World.
And opening copy:
Everyone in Los Angeles wears sunglasses.... Brad to escape from attention, Bibi to revel in it. The Belamar, ensconced in the upscale L.A. enclave of Manhattan Beach, invites you to bring yours.
Huh? Did the marketing folks out in Cali stop speaking English? Oh yeah, and that weird photo above, the one that looks like either the new Ace of Base album cover, or a promo for Cameron Diaz's god awful Trippin', is straight from The Belmar website.

Furhter south, on Pacific Beach in San Diego, Tower23, is being called the "first luxury beachfront hotel" in the city in nearly a decade.
Despite a "stark" look, the hotel has 44 suites and should boost traffic to the area, especially with its indoor-outdoor beachfront bar.
Suite amenities include signature Serenity beds, color and aromatherapy baths, step-in rain showers, floating whirlpool tubs and a customized beverage and nutrition bar.
Reason for the name? It sits right next door to a lifeguard tower.
And lastly, as we previously reported,The Huntley Hotel will be opening at the end of April. Word is a spa is set to open there this summer.
