Hotel Nelligan: C'est chic et historique
If you are looking for something a little more upscale, and a little more boutique than the charming, yet rustic Auberge Les Passants du Sans Soucy--check out Hotel Nelligan down the road, yet still on rue St-Paul.
This is the kind of hotel you walk into and get excited about. The property combines old world charm with modern design. Exposed brick is everywhere, but so are gas fireplaces, and shuttered windows.
All rooms come with spacious bathrooms and CD players. There is also a great rooftop terrace for estival quaffs with a view of the river.

So who stays at Hotel Nelli? Folks who want a view of the St-Lawrence river and want to be in the midst of the horse drawn carriage scene that is Old Montreal.
Be aware, if you stay here, it will be a bit of a walk to Centre-Ville and the other sections of Montreal, so be sure, if you are visiting Montreal in the cold season (November-April) that you want to focus on Vieux Montreal.
Rates start at $195 CAD, however if you can swing it, go for the junior loft suite, which you should be able to get for under $300 CAD.
