One quick tip:  The free WiFi craze doesn't seem to have taken hold in Montreal quite yet, at least not at the hotels we visited.  Many didn't even offer WiFi, while others offered WiFi at a price.  Hotel Gault did offer in room ethernet access, while W offered both WiFi and ethernet, for 20 CAD a day.  The rest were somewhere in between.
