A design hotel without the attitude, that seems to be a common theme in Montreal, and Hotel Gault epitomizes that theme.
Gault is small design hotel with 30 loft style rooms featuring shiny concrete floors--the bathroom floors are heated--big freestanding tubs, and spacious minimalism.
This place looks like it could have been designed by Howard Roark himself.
All the rooms are unique, and the easy going staff will deliver complimentary bowls of café au lait delivered to your door each morning.
This hotel feels very Montreal. We aren't exactly sure what that means, but if you go to Gault you will feel it too.
The property is located on the Centre-Ville side of Old Montreal, thus both Rue St-Paul & Rue St. Catherine are a good weather walk away (the latter further than the further.)
The room we saw, Room 220, has a winter promo rate of 239 CAD that includes a free breakfast. Oh, and if you book online through the Gault website you have to have Windows running IE 5.5 or up--strange.
Anyway, despite the "PC only" reservations system, if you are looking for a design hotel experience that is uniquely Montreal you will want to check out Hotel Gault.
