Tropicana Keeps Plans Secret
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the Tropicana, at the corner of Tropicana and the Strip, holds one of the most desirable Strip real estate spots, but Aztar Corp. on Wednesday said it's still not ready to sell.
So what gives?
The Phoenix-based gaming company owns Las Vegas' Tropicana, an aging hotel-casino whose future has been a topic of interest with gaming and real estate people for several years.
Aztar previously said it would, by March 31, discuss a proposed megaresort for the site, but those details were again withheld from a conference call covering the company's fourth-quarter earnings.
"Our best course of action at this time is to postpone a decision about the Las Vegas Tropicana development ... until the fall," Aztar President and Chief Financial Officer Bob Haddock said.
Apparently Aztar wants to "study" Las Vegas' skyrocketing land values. Instead of reading, maybe the company should think about actually doing something with their 34-acre parcel on the strip. Ya think?
