A Ritz, Is A Ritz, Is A Ritz?

Eric Reuther, who looks like he should date our friend Wanda Lust, appears to have a bit of a Ritz fetish. He has been fortunate enough to stay at a bunch of Ritz properties, thus looks at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey without that sense of awe that the common folk might have (that would be us).

Eric quips:

The Marina del Rey Ritz does have some beautiful views, certainly unique to this property. Our room had a nice view of the harbor. The facilities were also particularly nice. We spent a very relaxing morning at the hot tub down by the very nice pool (where some much-talked-about photos of Britney Spears were recently taken)

Let me be clear - the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey is a very nice hotel. A luxury property to be sure. It delivers the Ritz-Carlton experience, which is always very nice. You certainly won't be uncomfortable in the least.

My problem with the Ritz in Marina del Rey could apply to any one of several Ritz-Carlton properties around the country. The problem is that they increasingly look alike. And maybe that’s ok, but I find it kind of disappointing. When you’re paying up for premium accommodations, I’d like the property to deliver a unique experience.
