...in French Polynesia

A FlyerTalk discussion reminds us that the search for the best overwater bungalow in French Polynesia is always on.

One poster poses the question: "Hotel Bora Bora or Bora Bora Lagoon?"

The posters one request? He would like to be spared from "hearing other people in their bungalows." Can we get an amen.

The answer? According to FlyerTalk, neither resort is bungalow tops. Instead, Bora Bora Nui is the place to be.

If you can't afford Nui, look into the Intercontinental, which was refurbished in 2002.

So the current rankings, as we see them, for overwater bungalow hotels in the French Polynesia:

  1. Bora Bora Nui
  2. Intercontinental
  3. Lagoon Resort
  4. Hotel Bora Bora

Can we just say if you are choosing between these four overwater bungalow hotels you are one lucky bastard.

If you find yourself at one of these stilted bungalows let us know your thoughts--we like to live vicariously through you.

Sofitel Motu

I stayed in an OVW bungalow in Bora Bora last October for our honeymoon.  We stayed 4 nights at the Sofitel Motu and it was great.  The best part about the Sofitel Motu is that it is actually on a small motu off of the main island of Bora Bora.  There is a free shuttle to the main Sofitel on shore so you can easily get onto the main island for activities.  I didn't care too much for the main island so it was nice to be on the motu looking back at the scenery of the island.

We also stayed in Moorea and Rangiroa.  To see more info on our trip you can go to http://southpacifichoneymoon.blogspot.com/

Wow

...you took some great photos as well.

Thanks for sharing with all of us.

If you don't mind we will probably publish one of your photos and do a separate story on your experience.

How was Sofitel Motu cost wise?  Did it break the bank?

The place in Moorea looks great as well.

French Polynesia

markj,

Thanks.  I would be happy to let you publish a photo and story.  If you want a full res version let me know.  We have over a 1,000 pics from the trip so that is just a small sample on the site.  I have been meaning to finish posting the rest of the trip, hopefully this weekend I can at least get the Rangiroa part of the trip up.  That was my favorite part.

The sofitel wasn't cheap, that was for sure.  It was the most expensive of the three islands we stayed at on the trip.  It was by far the most luxurious though.
