NY's Hotel Big Dig
Yeah, yeah, we've followed Pomeranc's dangling carrot for the better part of 2005 to no avail.
So if Pomeranc's place isn't open yet, what is going on at Six Columbus right now?
The West Park Hotel, that's what.
Nice website, but what are the rooms like?
My airport taxi drove around for 20 minutes, looking for "6 Columbus Circle." It doesn't exist. The hotel is 2 blocks away, on 58th between 8th and 9th, and doorman on Columbus Circle are tired of telling poor cabbies this. And it's still under construction?! It was under construction when I stayed there four years ago! Dust and dirt everywhere. The first night, my room was tiny, next to the elevator shaft, with one small window on a narrow airshaft, a broken TV, lamp, clock, and drawer, and a burning-hot steam pipe in the dangerously narrow bathroom doorway, which also made the room too hot to sleep in -- in November.
Classic web bait and brick-and-mortar switch.
Oh, and guess what. The Thompson hotel website now says "Opening Summer 2006" next to the Six Columbus logo.
Can we officially label this the hotel version of the Big Dig?
Please Mr. Pomeranc we beg of you, crack the whip over at the illusionary Six Columbus and get the revamp done.
