St. Lucia: Where Good Things Come in Threes

The latest issue of Budget Travel takes its readers to three small hotels in St. Lucia, the Carribbean isle.

The Stonefield Estate Villa Resort sits at the base of one the island's most famous features, the Pitons ("green hulking peaks that rise from the sea in cinematic fashion.")

Once a former cocoa plantation, the resort has been transformed into 16 large villas, ranging from one bedroom to three bedrooms, all with ocean views and private pools. Plus the resort offers shuttles to two glorious beaches, private plunge pools, outdoor showers, hammocks and the requisite mosquito-netting over four-poster beds.

Rooms start at $140 during the summer season.

Ti Kaye means "Small House" in the native St. Lucian language of Creole Patois.

And a small house is essentially what you get when you visit this resort. There are 33 cottages to choose from and the Anse Cochon beach just steps away. Obviously, this resort has all the water activities and seafood you can dream of.

(*Random fact: the owner used to be married to the owner of Stonefield's sister.)

Lastly, the Coco Palm is the more "hip" hotel of the three. Situated in a more urban setting on the island, it has "full-on walls and windows, TV, Wi-Fi and central air-conditioning." Plus the first floor of the three-story building are "swim-up" meaning guests can open their door and just into the hotel pool. That beats the Gansevoort's rooftop pool any day.
