[Ed Note: Finding hotels in Italy always appear to be a challenge, which is why we should all pay attention to Jolie's good find in Rome. Enjoy.]
Last month I had the pleasure of staying at the Marriott Grand Flora in Rome for a week. Located on historic Via Veneto across the street from Harry's Bar, next to Villa Borghese and a five minute walk from the Piazza di Spagna and Via dei Condotti, the hotel could not have been more perfectly situated, and we didn't need to take a cab or the subway anywhere.
I was staying with my parents, so had a small room down the hall from their suite. While the room was one of the tiniest things I've ever seen, it was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable, with an updated bathroom and two very large windows. The walls were insulated enough that I couldn't hear my neighbors; the room was cleaned impeccably, chocolates were placed on my pillows every night, and the bed was heaven. I literally had not one single complaint about the room, other than its small (but manageable) size.
The hotel itself is also beautiful, with a lavish lobby, and fantastically gorgeous exterior. It must have been renovated recently, because a local told me that the Flora was a historic hotel only recently bought by Marriott, and I didn't find any of the faded and tired attributes you usually associate with old hotels.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and each morning a delicious breakfast was served. The dinner, on the other hand, left something to be desired, but I suppose you can't win on every single front!
