Hotel In Question: House of Blues Hotel
Zagat's Take:
"Cool, dude", yes, this "trendy, funky" River Norther offers a "refreshing change from the mundane" with "super-comfortable rooms" done up in "wild, wacky colors" and a "harmonica in the mini-fridge"; part outsider/folk art museum, part night club, with "live nightly music acts" and a lobby bar that "resembles an opium den" (plus a brand-new bowling lounge), it's "one of the more fun places to stay in Chi-town", and "they couldn't be more welcoming" to pets and kids; if a few sing the blues about the "nightmare"-inducing decor, most say that's what "keeps you interested."
HotelChatter's Take:
Oh Zaggy, according to one of the Hotel Mavens who visited HOB late last spring, it isn't just the decor that is "nightmare" inducing, it is the whole experience.
Allegedly, this Hotel Maven was denied double beds because he booked on Hotels.com, then denied a cot because, um, well, he still isn't sure exactly why.
The net net? This Hotel Maven had to sleep in the same bed as his Dad. Now that is nightmare inducing.
On the bright side, at least the House of Blues isn't named Hotel Cass.
