El Tamarindo is a Sheraton Luxury property comprised of 30 villas. Several of the villas have both private pools and hot tubs. Some are nestled in the forest and others overlook the beach.
Upon arrival at the resort, you are greeted by a margarita and very friendly staff. There are enough staff on hand to meet every need, and the same people seem to work rather long shifts and are at the resort almost every single day. Which is nice because by the end of your stay, you'll recognize most of the staff by name and they do their best to make every guest feel at home.
The resort has a beautiful signature 18 hole golf course that overlooks the Pacific. This particular feature was a big draw for several of the guests, many of whom played multiple rounds per day.
The restaurant, La Higuera, is also very good and features a different menu each night. And since we were there over Thanksgiving, they even prepared a traditional turkey dinner!
There is also an outstanding spa that offers a wide variety of services, including a twice weekly Temazcal - also known as a "sweat lodge." We did not get the chance to experience Temazcal ourselves, but have been told that it is a pretty amazing experience.
The resort is a 3.5 hour drive south of Puerto Vallarta. Or it is about an hour north of Manzanillo, which also has limited flights to the U.S. We flew into Puerto Vallarta and rented a car to get to El Tamarindo. The road, which weaves through the forests of the Mexican coastline, is relatively well maintained.
This place truly is paradise. I can't wait to return.
