Manhattan hotel prices are insane.

So if you go budget in NYC these days what can you expect at a place like, say, Times Square's Hotel Carter? This morning the answer seems to be--a fire.

An early morning fire on the 12th floor sent hundreds of guests outside. As a result, 43rd Street became packed with luggage, and 20 fire trucks. Of course we still don't know the scope of the fire, the cause, nor how many guests were effected.

No injuries were reported, but fires are not exactly the best wake up calls.

Fires asid, doesn't sound like recent guests have been thrilled with the Carter:

The worst experience of our lives!! The rooms were dirty and a health hazard staff were very rude and unhelpful do not give them the satisfaction or your money. The room dripped water and plaster came off the ceiling. We have stayed in budget hotels before but this is off the scale, place should be condemned.

Recent high praise for the hotel comes from the guest pictured to the right, who says:

Didn't get killed, mugged or infected!!

Of course, as always, these are just guest opinions.
