Credit The Standard LA with starting the ongoing rooftop pool craze in LA.

According to the LA Times, since the Standard rooftop pool and bar became an it place to gather back in 2002 every developer and their architect wanted to go rooftop pool.

Standard hotelier Andre Balazs:

The fact is, every hotel across the country is doing something on its roof if possible, the Standard downtown set a unique example, and everyone would like something like that.

With developable real estate constantly getting more expensive, it only makes sense that everyone goes vertical.  However, the Standard set the trend, and other lemming hotels have followed, much to the delight of rooftop lovin' guests worldwide.

    Best Rooftop pool !!

    The Standard may have the most stars to view, but in my book the hotel rooftop pool with the best view has got to be at Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in the middle of Taipei. While there is a modest pool down on the roof of a lower level, take the elevator ride to the top of the 43 floor hotel tower for awesome 360 views of the city, Taipei 101 (currently the worlds tallest building), and the mountians in the distance.
