Four Seasons Bali: Shaken But Secure

October 3, 2005 at 8:37 AM | by GEM0330 | 0 Comments

The Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay reported all staff and guests accounted for after a bomb explodes near the property.

This attack took place Saturday night outside a crowded restaurant near the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran beach, and at shopping plaza in Kuta. As of Saturday night, hundreds may be injured and 36 are reported dead--a number which is expected to escalate.

Bali's tourism industry has been slowly recuperating after the horrific bombing in October 2002 that killed 202 people at a crowded nightclub. Radical Indonesian Islamic terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah, which took responsibility for 2002's attack, is suspected to be behind Saturday's bombings.

The resort issued this statement on their the web page.

We are deeply saddened by the bombings that have occurred in Bali. We are grateful to report that all of our guests and employees are safe and accounted for, and Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay was not directly affected. Resort staff are in the process of assisting guests with their travel plans. Anyone seeking information about family or friends can contact the Resort at 62 (361) 701010. We will update this site with further details, as they become available.

As of May 10, 2005, the the US State Department maintained warnings to all US citizens to defer non-essential travel to Indonesia. This warning was reiterated on Friday by the US Embassy in Jakarta, who maintained that terrorist cells were still operating and could strike at any time targeting tourists and foreigners.
