Mammoth new ski lodge slated for 2007

Skiing fans, listen up! Starwood and Intrawest are teaming up to bring us a new luxury ski resort in Mammoth Lakes, California. The area is already packed with inns, B&Bs and other lodging options, but we're talking a full-scale luxury property here, the whole kit and kaboodle.

Promised features include panoramic mountain views, a restaurant and room service, ski valet, pool and hot tubs, fitness center, underground parking, meeting space, and ready access to Mammoth Mountain's express ski lift.

Mammoth is smack-dab in the middle of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, as snowy and steep as they come. Skiers have flocked to the area for ages, but now the silver spoon set can see what they've been missing. The Village at Mammoth, modeled on European alpine ski towns and replete with night spots, shopping and special events, sounds like a happening place.

We'll have to wait for the Westin Monache, Mammoth, though: Construction begins this spring, but it won't be completed until spring of 2007.
