The Only Way to Fly: The Fairmont Vancouver Airport

When I think airport hotel, I think "seen one, seen 'em all", chain establishments heavy on departure location but light on fun. Then there's the exception that proves the rule, the Fairmont Vancouver Airport. Talk about wanting to re-schedule your flight!
This hotel is clearly designed with the business traveler in mind, yet it avoids that staid, boardroom feel. Even in your suite you forget you're in an airport (not near,in), largely due to the soundproofing that shields you from roaring engines and sonic oomph. The ultra-modern lobby, bright restaurant and lively lounge allow the busiest among us to let our hair (and laptops) down. This place swings!
It's the thoughts that count. I like the self-service airport check-in kiosk in the hotel lobby, the idea that healthy in-flight meals are sold onsite, and the hand massages available in the terminal below. For a full treatment, the hotel features a spa.
Best of all, it's in Vancouver, where your wide window brings in the mountainous scope of the Pacific Northwest. This atmosphere is anything but runway, you'll be looking for excuses to layover here on future flights.
