Bed Wars Rage Into 2005

January 31, 2005 at 11:24 AM | by markj | 2 Comments

Marriott launched a major push to replace nearly every bed in seven of its chains.

Each king-size bed will get 300-thread-count 60 percent cotton sheets, seven pillows instead of five, a pillowy mattress cover, a white duvet, and a "bed scarf". Umm, is the "bed scarf" for when the room gets to cold?

In any event, the project will cost $190 million, making it the biggest initiative ever at Marriott. The hotel mavens that use these beds don't get off scott free either, plan on watching your Marriott bill go up somewhere between $1-$30 to help pay for these new beds.

Sp what happens to the old beds? "Homeless shelters don't really have a use for king size beds," said one Marriott exec, so why not a fire sale like the Gramercy?  We bet bargain hunters would be all over the cheap giant beds.

Bed Wars now include Radisson, Marriott, Westin, and many other well known hotel chains.

Apparently this survey got industry folks jumping.

Have a 4 night stay at the Westin Kierland in Phoenix coming up and the Heavenly Bed is like nothing I have ever slept in. No wonder Marriott is upgrading. They have to  if they want to be competitive.

    Have you tried...

the Kimpton beds?  I think Sealy makes 'em special from Kimpton.  They are great.  Gotta try these Heavenly beds and see how they match up.
