    Great hotel!

My wife and I have stayed at the El Convento twice and this place is TOPS! Great location right in old town San Juan. Service is great and the rooftop pool and jacuzzi can't be beat. Only drawback (which some may say is a plus), there is no casino at the El Covento. If you want gambling, head to the Ritz.

Funny story with the El Covento. We arrived in San Jaun late at night on our honeymoon to find the streets packed solid with a festival party crowd. The taxi could barely make it through the streets. When we arrived, we were shown to our room, which turned out to be one third of their massive presidential sweet. Huge dining room table for 12, massive antique armoir housing a giant TV. Our bed? A pull out sofa bed... I thought the guy was joking.  Needless to say they comped us two nights. We partied on the streets of San Jaun and prentended to be presidential (read: JFK not GW)then returned two years later and stayed gratis.

San Jaun has some great restaurants, try DragonFly for a latin/asian fusion.
