We don't know who issued the edict that every hotel website must have background music, probably some former RazorFish or RedSky wonk, but we curse this edict almost every day.

You see, we spend a great deal of time on hotel webistes, and almost to a URL, these sites play unwanted music. The funniest part is how similar the site tracks are. Boutique hotel sites play that light thumping music, while lux hotels usually stick with piano tracks. While we wish they would all knock it off, we ran into a different instrument at the new Marriott Star Pass in Tucson site.

If we aren't mistaken this sounds like a pan flute solo, and made us want to get out of our chair and do some sort of Olympic rhythmic gymnastics dance, with a ribbon, of course. Either that or walk up over a Mexican hillside, sweaty, with a smoldering gun in our hands. Either way, we are not sure that was the sites desired effect, but hey, we will say this, as far as annoying background website music goes, the Marriott Star Pass Tucson was unique, and made us pay attention.

In any event, the Starr Pass Resort & Spa is opening its 575 rooms on January 17, 2005. This resort includes a golf course, a 20,000-square-foot-spa, two swimming pools, and is only 5 1/2 miles from downtown Tucson.

The resort is offering an introductory special for $189 a night, definitely a deal in Tucson, during the height of winter season. We are not sure how long this deal will run, but when it ends, the regular rate will jump to $399.
