If you are looking for a nice basic room in Boston’s Theatre district (as defined by Hotwire), you may want to give the Boston Financial Hyatt district a look.

This hotel has been reinvented itself more times then Madonna (it was Hotel de Lafayette, then the Swissotel, and now the Hyatt), but no matter what company is managing this property the basics stay the same, book a room here and you will get a comfortable stay in a good location.

The rooms are clean, comfy, and rather large, but the interior of the property itself is a bit old and could use a bit of a renovation. You enter the property through the lobby and take an elevator up to the room floors. Once on a room floor, you will see that the property has a cool open atrium effect going for it. Not open air, don’t worry, Bostonians are not that crazy.

If you are a business, or family traveler, looking for a quality Boston bargain, this is the type of property that you could score on Priceline or Hotwire.

We found it on Hotwire.com for a decent price (look for a 4 star hotel in the Theatre District with customer reviews), and some people have even talked about scoring a Priceline room here for $100.

    Comment on Downtown Hyatt

I have stayed at the Hyatt Downtown Boston, twice in the past year and I do enjoy its close proximity to the major shopping venues { ex. Filene's Basement etc}, tourist sites, [ Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the State House, the Freedom Trail], and the business district.

I have made some "hits" for this hotel on Hotwire and Priceline, but I am a little miffed when, as Hyatt cardholders, we get no priviliges beyond the room and no points if we book our room through these consolidators.  You would think Hyatt would really want to "WOW" us.

Some of the rooms at this Hyatt are a bit worn and could use renovations from the old SwissHotel decor. I think it is pretty sad when they want to charge you almost $4.00 for a bottle of Poland Spring water on entering your room.  At the Wyndham, they give it to you for free!

The real lobby area is a nice place for meeting people, and having a few drinks before the theatre.  Unless it is a very nasty day outside, the local Boston restaurants nearby are a better value than the Hyatt's own.  They would do well to adopt a discount coupon similar to the Park Plaza as an inducment for their guests.

This Hyatt is fine, but it has to be considered a work in progress to really distinguish itself from the other "legacy" hotels in Downtown Boston.
