Hotel On Rivington: A mid September open?

It appears that the long, involved, ever-changing development saga of the Hotel on Rivington may be coming to an end.

Late last week, we trekked to Rivington street to get a first hand gander at the goings on. Upon arrival, we spotted a boarded up front door, and a construction crew facing a mountain of work before anyone would be packing an over night bag for Rivington. The scene definitely hinted that the hotel was at least a month away from opening.

However, Hotel on Rivington staffers politely disagreed, suggesting a mid September opening is in the works. (umm, isn’t that next week?). Sounds unlikely to us. What is more likely? How ‘bout October 1st, that is the first day hotel staff would allow us to make a room reservation, so they must be at least somewhat confident the doors will be open at that point.

The introductory rate is $195.00, and the only way to currently make reservations is buy phone. (212.475.2600, ask for reservations).

Will it happen? Will the hotel be open for business October 1? We say yes, but in some sort of soft launch mode, which means (or should mean) some sort of freebies for guinea pig guests.
