THEhotel mixing class with crass, Vegas style

HotelChatter already has a sizeable review on THEhotel, but it is always good to get many takes, right?  So here is another review on THEhotel in Las Vegas.

Like the previous reviewer said, everything is dubbed THE at THEhotel and the nomenclature is down right pretentious.  The worst is when you hop in a cab and have to say to the driver, "THEhotel please."

THEfront desk seems to have a sizeable line 24/7, good for the hotels P&L, not so good for the impatient guest.  On this stay, an odd incident occurred at the front desk concerning keys.  We were a group of six guys who booked two suites.  We wanted at least two keys for both rooms, a reasonable request.  THEfront desk said our room only came with one key, and to get another we would have to pay $35.00 (an additional guest fee).  Does THEhotel really think it is selling one guest an entire suite?  This odd incident became a bit stranger when later in the night a new front desk clerk simply issued us a new room key with no mention of a charge (this seems much more sane).

Despite THEincident, THEhotel sports some cool guest rooms.

The all suite rooms are sweet.  Giant plasma tv's, plenty of room for 4 guys (just order a cot from the front desk).  Huge bathroom, and as one San Francisco homeowner with our group quipped "This place has two bathrooms! My house doesn't even have two bathrooms."

Internet wise this place is a bummer.  $9.99 per day for broadband, no wireless.  Though THEstaff claimed by next year all the rooms would be wireless.  Whether or not they are going to charge for that access is a whole different story.

THEgrounds are extremely extensive, if you count the original Mandalay Bay as part of the grounds (the two towers are connected).

The Mandalay boasts a giant indoor mall,  a club (Rum Jungle), some sort of vodka bar (Red Square), plenty of dining options, and of course the pool area.  The Mandalay boasts two pool areas, the main pool, where you will find families mixed in with hipsters, and the more exclusive Moorea pool club.

By day Moorea is a "European Style" pool area, if you catch my drift, and by night Moorea turns into a beach club party of some sort.  Either way you can expect to spend $35.00 and wait in a line.  Can you imagine waiting in line for a pool?  If you can't, don't bother with Moorea.

THEhotel is definitely a classy Vegas establishment.  It is connected to the main tower of Mandalay Bay, where all the action is, but far enough away so you won't hear the partying and casino white noise all night long.
