Update: Well, it appears to be official. Britney Spears is bailing on the Onyx Hotel once again. The Britney Spears Foundation Room opens next Tuesday, but Brit will be in Hawaii with her beau, while her Mom does her dirty work, and actually shows up at the hotel. Can we just schedule Tivo to record the Britney Spears Behind the Music now, or do we have to wait until the after the downfall? Kimpton must be so sick of these antics. How many times have they been stood up now? We have lost count.

Original story below (published July 5, 2004)

First Brit ducks out of her Onyx Hotel tour, claiming bum knee, then she bails on the real life Onyx Hotel in Boston, claiming, ummm, bum knee?

Apparently, the soon to be Mrs. Federline booked all 112 rooms for her night at the Onyx.  The promotion was a long planned bit of marketing synergy that was kick started when Spears named her tour Onyx Hotel, after Kimpton had already secured the name. Oops.  Next thing you know, Britney and her Mom serve as curators for a room on the top floor of the Boston Onyx, link to the hotel off the tour website, and agree to promotional gigs involving the property.  Hmmm, you think a lawyer or two got involved in this one?

However, when Brit's allegedly gimpy knee closed the curtain on the tour, she pulled the plug on the 112 rooms, which luckily the Onyx Hotel was still able to sell, despite the singers' last minute bail out.  (Note to Mr. Federline...you see a pattern here pal?)  Shows you how hot the Onyx is in Boston right now.

What's the rub?  Hopefully Britney will make nice and make an appearance at the hotel in the near future when the "Britney Spears Foundation Room" opens.  Yup, for $259 you can sleep in a room styled after Spears' childhood room in Louisiana.

Naturally, a bevy of moms with teenage daughters have been pestering the Onyx Hotel for a chance to reserve the room.  That's all well and good, but the real scary thing is when a business traveler calls up and requests the Britney room.  Don't worry we will let you know when and if it happens.
