Constitutional issues in Las Vegas? Censorship in Sin City? Is the First Amendment dead in Las Vegas? First the Ronstadt boot, now billboard protests, what’s next? Closing the Spearment Rhino?

The Nevada Gaming Commission is holding up negotiations in a case involving the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's allegedly pornographic billboards.

So what did these too-racy-for-Vegas ads? One showed a man with scantily clad woman lying atop a gaming table with chips nearby and a card in her mouth. Above the two there is text that reads "There's always a temptation to cheat." Another, pictured here, told Rodeo attendees to “Get ready to buck all night, again, insert suggestive woman.

Are these lawyers serious? Ok, so is it such a shocker that Vegas is advertising sex, debauchery, and maybe (if you infer too deeply, you perverts) prostitution?

Can’t these lawyers pick up their attaches and go after the record companies who are selling this new girl named JoJo as a 13 year old sex symbol. Yeah. Come on lawyer type folks, get you’re a**es in gear and get this JoJo off television before R. Kelly gets wind of her existence. Forget these Vegas billboards.

In any event, Hard Rock Hotel President Kevin Kelley said for now all the billboards that caused the initial fuss have either been taken down or the wording in the advertising has been modified.

However, the billboards now around town still show models engaged in the physical activities that precipitated the uproar. But the written messages on the signs have been altered so they cannot be construed to suggest illegal activities, which the Gaming Control Board, in May, claimed was the real issue.
