Update: We just heard that Linda may have contributed to her own shafting. Apparently, Linda alienated the crowd by not performing her hits, at a show dubbed "Linda Ronstadt performs her greatest hits", so the crowd, and the hotel were already upset by the time Linda got political. If anyone was at the show, let us know what went down.

Aladdin apparently does not believe in free speech by the artists it invites to perform on its premises. After Linda Ronstadt gave a performance Saturday night and dedicated a song to Michael Moore, the Aladdin kicked her out of the hotel, not even allowing her to go back to her suite.

Ronstadt's comments about Michael Moore reportedly drew loud boos, and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theater. People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air.

Sounds like Linda got shafted. Poor, poor, pitiful her.

Did these cocktail tossing vandals get the boot as well?

The more burning question is why the hell didn’t Fievel Mouskewitz come to her aid during this melee?

Update on Ronstadt and the Aladdin (none / 0)

The Review-Journal, www.reviewjournal.com, reports today that a reputable local anchorwoman who was at the concert stated that:  "I was so stunned to read in the newspaper that anyone had a negative reaction," said KLAS-TV, Channel 8, news anchor Paula Francis. "Everyone who was leaving when I was leaving was just thrilled. They thought it was a good concert."

At the end of an hour's worth of singing, "she got a standing ovation, then she came out and did the (`Desperado') encore," Francis said. "There were loud boos and there was quite a bit of applause. But everyone calmed down right away and seemed to enjoy the rest of the encore."

Future Aladdin Management Welcome Ronstadt Back (none / 0)

The future management of the Aladdin hotel-casino said singer Linda Ronstadt would be welcomed back to the property after the performer was kicked out over the weekend by current management (soon to be foremer Aladdin President Bill Timmins) for praising filmmaker Michael Moore.

Planet Hollywood CEO Robert Earl said he'd like to take Moore up on the filmmaker's offer to join Ronstadt on Aladdin's stage and sing "America the Beautiful" when Earl's management team takes control of the bankrupt casino, as early as September.

"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," Earl said in a statement.  "We were very sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances of this past Saturday night and want to make it clear that Planet Hollywood has never, in our 13 year history, restricted any artists' right to free speech and we will continue with that policy once we take ownership."

Ronstadt told The Los Angeles Times she would continue to praise Moore at her concerts and didn't want to play the Aladdin again anyway.

Earl is waiting for a gaming license.  If the license is granted, the Aladdin will be renamed Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino.
