Bangkok Hotel Makes AIDS Ribboners See Red
Here's a social experiment:
Divide any Bangkok establishment into an AIDS wing and a non-AIDS wing.... if I were a betting man, I'd say one wing would be considerably more empty than the other, if not altogether a perfect vacuum.
Well, timing is everything and one Thai hotel played leper colonist on Sunday as 10,000 pariticpants swarmed the capital city for the 15th International AIDS Conference.
The AP reports that the Prince Palace Hotel in Bangkok told the forum's HIV-positive guests "to stay on one floor, asked them to eat in a separate area, and told cleaning staff to take precautions."
"It was like they were placed in a zoning area," said an AIDS advocacy group spokesman.
The hotel, deflecting blame, said it was merely protecting its guests and that organizers should not have invited visitors with AIDS in the first place.
