Live from the Argonaut, it's HotelChatter.

Yup, we are on the scene here in San Francisco frantically checking out hotel after hotel.

Currently, we are at the newly minted Argonaut enjoying the free wireless in the lobby.

Kimpton Properties gets that wireless was meant to be free, unlike some other properties (Hyatt, Marriott?).

Anyway, the lobby is extremely comfortable, and over the top nautical.  The Argonaut seems to know where the line is between kitsch and poor taste, and this property stays kitschy hip the whole way.

Sure the lobby may seem like Maritime over the top, but the fact that I am sitting here on a deck chair with an embroidered "A" somehow feels right (no Hester Prynn jokes please).

Exposed brick, dim lighting, campy nautical gear, and yet it all works.   This place makes you want to hang out in the Fisherman's wharf area, and that is no small feat.

    delightful recent visit

We enjoyed two days at the Argonaut last month .. and yes, the hallways were a bit noisy early in the evening but the comfort of the rooms more than made up for a few moments of noise. The location, views, ease of arrival and departure (valet) and the overall feeling of welcome by the staff made for a 4 star stay.  The attention to detail was superb. A wonderful property but perhaps families with young children should be attuned to the "no children along" adults in the mix and mind those youngsters "inside manners" a bit more. This is not the McDonalds "playland" even tho it has a whimsical fun decor. At $280+ we expect a bit more "decorum".  Teen should be reminded that the common area computers are for all to use to check email, etc and not for hours on end of computer games.

Meals at the Blue Mermaid (breakfast included in package) was far above average .. speedy service, food quality, overall A+.
