What is one step up from the capsule hotel in Japan? Appears to be the Japanese Love Hotel. If you can't stand the thought of sleeping in a coffin, but still don't want to splurge on a big hotel, or even a ryokan, why not spend the night at a love hotel?
Popularized in the 50's, the Love Hotels originally offered Japanese couples a chance to rent a room away from the diminutive, and usually crowded, surroundings of their family life. These days many tourists are also taking advantage of the love hotels as they trek through Japan.
