Stayed at the new Hilton in Austin during SXSW 2004 and found the property worthy, but not awe-inspiring.  The Austin Hilton is brand new, directly across from the convention center, and doesn't fail to deliver a good night sleep.  If you are a conventioneer looking for a convenient stay in Austin, you'll want to look into the Austin Hilton (You still might try this approach to get a deal at this property).  However, if you are looking for a unique hotel experience you may want to check elsewhere.

The new Austin Hilton is all about location.  The hotel is practically attached to the convention center, and just a couple blocks from the whole Sixth Street scene.  Furthermore, this hotel is brand new, so what it lacks in pizzazz, it makes up in that new car scent sort of way.

As you enter the Austin Hilton, you can feel its newness. The lobby is shiny, vast, and kept extremely clean, even during the height of SXSW.   The guest rooms are run of the mill. The rooms do offer Internet service, but it comes at a price. ($10 a day for Ethernet or Wireless)

On the lighter side, this Hilton does come with a built in sense of humor. This years SXSW awards were held at the Hilton, and host John Halcyon Styn had this to say about the show:

The award show tonight went well.

All day, the crew was telling me that the Hilton people were being really concerned. (The event was at the Hilton)

Then, as the show started - right after the parody video - a security supervisor came on the stage in a rage. "ARE YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS VIDEO!? This event is over. We're pulling the plug."

300 people sat and watched as I stuttered, "ummmmm"

Eventually, the organizer Shawn said, "YOU GOT PUNKED!"

All in all if you are looking for convenience, comfort, and don't mind paying for Internet access this hotel will fit your needs.
