Last weekend a friend and I spent the weekend in San Francisco to see the Lion King (FANTASTIC) and just be tourists. We ate several meals at the Fairmont Hotel where we stayed.

There is a new restaurant called Sofia's in the lower level. What a great place! At first I wondered about it as there were a lot of candles everywhere, but we ended up having a delightful dinner there.

The menu consisted of many different smaller plates to pick and choose from, we decided to pick two each and share. I forgot to ask for a copy of the Menu , however we ordered seared salmon, polenta, asparagus and mashed potatoes, they each had better names and sauces and additions and if I had the menu it would explain why we chose those selections.  Absolutely the best meal we had, wonderful service, we ordered dessert later, as we couldn't pass up the tasty treat. We spoke to the manager before leaving, he told us this was the first time the Fairmont had leased to a restaurant, other restaurants in the hotel (also great) are hotel owned and operated. I'm glad they did. I love the Fairmont it is an experience an offers class and elegance, the addition of Sofia made it even better. Oh the music at Sofia's was great too, they have someone making it...like a synthesizer or keyboard, (hey I'm old I don't know about those newfangled things) but I loved the upbeat atmosphere and sound, which was also relaxing and mellow. Anyhow don't take my word for it, go try it out.
