I refused to shower in the bathroom: the shower looked just plain scuzzy, with discolored grout, soap scum on the doors and a handle filled with rust? Mold? The shower's pressure worked at about 50% from one head and 10% from the second. The toilet seat was peeling and worn down to the wood. The sink stopper did not work, and in order to drain the basin we had to remove the stopper. The grout surrounding the sink and especially on the tile floor was unbelievably discolored and dirty looking. I used the sink downstairs in the common area.
The next disappointing event was the "breakfast". It consisted of COLD stale store bought rolls, a very small dish of lackluster fruit and a very small glass of store bought orange juice. Butter for the rolls was found in the communal refrigerator and tasted months old. We are tea drinkers. The only tea available in that area was herbal which we do not like. We asked Shannon for regular, i.e., nonherbal tea and were advised the owner does not permit it on the property...honest!! Curious, there was coffee available...
The B&B is located on East Bay Street, which is a very busy thoroughfare, across from the major Charleston commercial harbor where big ships dock to unload cargo. We did not feel safe after dark in that area so walking into town at night was not an option. On an earlier trip, we stayed at the Governor's Mansion in Charleston, which I highly recommend as an alternative to this very disappointing experience. Never again!
