Puttin' on the Ritz at 1,574 feet

[Update: Looks like the Hong Kong hotel may not be the tallest hotel in the world, Dubai is working on the world's tallest building, which will include a hotel, and an infinity pool on the 72nd floor! Thanks Patrick.]

Ritz-Carlton is planning a 300-room hotel in Hong Kong, slated to open in 2009. At 1,574 feet, it will be the tallest hotel in the world. And clocking in at nearly a hundred feet taller than the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the new hotel will be the world's tallest building -- period.

The hotel will occupy only the top 13 floors of a 100-story tower, which will also house condos, offices, serviced apartments and shops. We're not superstitious, but if we were going to be that high up, we'd be avoiding the number 13.
