[Editor's note: mindswing, one of our favorite biz travelers, is back. In the past the 'swing has given us hot tips on how to save while on the road, and has contributed a couple of hotel stories. Nowadays, it looks like his company has him in Detroit quite often. Ahh, nothing like Detroit in December. Enjoy mindswings two latest hotel stories.]

Located in the heart of Detroit in a massive sky scraper complex, this hotel delivers a consistently good experience with one minor flaw.

When I travel to Detroit, this is my hotel of choice. While it's not an luxury boutique hotel, this property has a lot going for it.

The Good:
  • Located in a massive skyscraper complete with a mall, attached people mover, and a small company called General Motors.
  • Sweeping views for upper floors of the river and Canada.
  • Good high speed internet and wifi in the lobby.
  • The "Rivercafe" attached is a good bar and restaurant. Try the french onion soup.
  • Friendly staff
  • Great concierge lounge if you can get access

(The bad, the ugly, and the verdict, after the jump)

  • The Bad:
  • Hard as a rock bed with uncomfortable sheets.
  • Expensive parking

    The Ugly:
  • Um, well when the Democratic convention was there I saw a couple ugly teamster women. Otherwise, nothing ugly to be found.
[Editor's Note: Did we miss the memo? We thought the DNC was in Boston? Maybe years ago it was in Detroit? Is mindswing dating himself?]

The Verdict: Stay here when in Detroit. Don't forget to complain about the beds so they get replaced.
